Hello everyone, it's been a week since I gave birth. My breasts are hard and painful, especially during feeding. In the evening, I started feeling chills, my temperature was 38.8 and later 39.6. Can you please tell me how to treat mastitis? Unfortunately, my gynecologist is not responding to calls over the weekend. Please help ?

Lactostasis is a condition where milk gets stuck in the milk ducts, causing inflammation and painful lumps in the breast. It is important to start treatment as soon as possible to avoid the development of mastitis. Here are some tips for treating lactostasis: 1. Try to feed your baby regularly or pump milk to prevent milk stagnation in the breast. 2. Apply warm compresses or warm the breast before feeding to help the milk flow better. 3. Massage the breast with gentle movements towards the nipple to help the milk exit the ducts. 4. Drink plenty of fluids and rest as much as possible. 5. If you have a fever and chills, consult a doctor as soon as possible, as you may need antibiotics to treat possible mastitis. If you are unable to contact your gynecologist, seek medical attention at an emergency room or local clinic. Do not delay treatment, as mastitis can lead to serious complications. Good luck and get well soon!

Correct application, you can apply ice, I myself strain out all the lumps and feed. And do this several times, you can strain under the shower or use a breast pump. If it doesn't work, you can call a breastfeeding consultant. Express as much as you can and give it to the baby ??

I was advised to scald a cabbage leaf, cool it down, and apply it to the breast, and to walk around and sleep with it on. My temperature also rose, so I took paracetamol, which is safe during breastfeeding. Be sure to massage the lumpy areas, express milk, and offer the breast to the baby more frequently. When you are massaging the lumps, do it with tolerable pain, do not overdo it. Your task is to eliminate congestion; regular expressing and applying are essential.

Call an ambulance if things are bad. Generally, a breast pump and a strong, good breast massage are needed to break up all the lumps. It's painful, but effective. I was most afraid of mastitis, so I would massage my breast at any opportunity.

Thank you all very much, I expressed by hand, and it got easier. For some reason, while we were in the maternity hospital, they told me not to express, although my breast had already started hurting on one side.

You can contact the maternity hospital where you gave birth, and they will tell you everything, or you can go there for an examination. Within a month, you can also contact them and the hospital's pediatrician. They should have told you this at discharge.
