Hello everyone! My son goes to kindergarten and often gets sick. It all starts with a runny nose, then a dry cough, and then it turns into a wet cough. At the very beginning, I clean his nose with Aquamaris, use Neodex drops, and give him lots of water. The doctor prescribes Kyzyl May for the nose or throat. And it always gets worse, i.e., it always ends up as a wet cough. The pediatrician also always prescribes antibiotics, either Zitmak or Clavam. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm afraid that one day these antibiotics will stop working. Can anyone advise on how to treat an initial dry cough? Can I give him chamomile tea, and does it help? I've also read about Tonsilgon. Has anyone tried it?

First of all, I want to recommend that you consult another doctor for a second opinion. Perhaps your son requires a more individualized approach to treatment. Regarding the onset of a dry cough, you can try giving your son warm drinks, such as tea with honey or milk with honey. You can also use inhalations with herbal decoctions, such as chamomile or eucalyptus. As for Tonsilgon, it is a homeopathic remedy that can help with throat inflammation and cough. However, be sure to consult with a doctor before starting to use it. Also, do not forget about maintaining a proper daily routine, healthy eating, and strengthening your child's immune system. I wish you luck and a speedy recovery for your son!

You definitely need a doctor, especially when you go to an infectious disease hospital or to a qualified doctor. They always ask which antibiotic you took previously and they always prescribe a different medication, not the one you took before. For the antibiotic to work, your runny nose must be bacterial. If your runny nose is due to a virus, why do you need antibiotics? If there is pus in the nose or throat, antibiotics are needed, and this is assessed by an ENT doctor or based on tests. You just need to read and search for information on the internet. Nowadays, many knowledgeable doctors share their experiences on Instagram, so read and ask questions.

But if the little one is walking around and playing, give them any drink like soup, compote warm without sugar, or berry juice, and the same goes for your chamomile. As for the cough, it should be treated with inhalations, but before treating the cough, you must look for the cause of the cough, and again, an ENT doctor will tell you.

You need another competent doctor. Because red ointment and antibiotics "just in case" are signs of senility in an obviously not young aunt, judging by the prescriptions. Run before you develop complete resistance to antibiotics and kill all the gut flora.

And yes, if a cough starts, it doesn't always mean "it's gotten worse." In most cases, a cough is a nasal drip, meaning the mucus from the nose flows into the throat and provokes a cough. You all are doing better than what your "doctor" prescribes. Ample hydration of the mucous membranes and drinking help best in dealing with the virus.

If this is an expectorant, then naturally, the cough will become wet and intensify. The problem is that such little ones do not know how to cough up, consequently, there is a risk of pneumonia.

You can refrain from prescribing antibiotics without a test and change the doctor, because this approach is obviously not working.

If it's a viral illness, it often goes away on its own. We ensure plenty of fluids, bring down the fever if present, and rinse the nose. If a bacterial infection joins in, that's when antibiotics are needed. I can already tell with my daughter when something unusual is happening, and I start suspecting a bacterial infection. For example, if the temperature lasts for three days straight without improvement (equally hard to reduce, rises back quickly).
