16 days late — a concerning situation. If the test doesn't give a clear result, possible causes are: - the test was done too early (hCG may be low); - first morning urine wasn't used or the urine was too diluted; - the test is expired/poor quality or used incorrectly; - hormonal changes, stress, weight, or effects of contraception. What to do: - try another test with first morning urine (better to use a different, more sensitive brand); - for a reliable result, have an hCG blood test at a clinic (it will be more accurate); - if your period still doesn't come and uncertainty persists, or if you have worrisome symptoms like severe pain, heavy bleeding, or weakness — see a doctor. Additional: when was your last period, and have you used contraception?
